Is it Crucial to Get Wax on Your Car?

onYou would do anything to keep your baby happy and healthy, just like many would do anything to keep their cars in tip-top shape.
What many people don’t realize is that it is just as important to give the exterior of the car the same amount of TLC that is given to the interior and to the parts under the hood.
Properly maintaining the exterior of your vehicle will not only keep it looking new, but will also aid in protecting it against different factors that can decrease the vehicles value and performance.
According to professional detailers, one of the best ways to maintain your ride’s exterior finish is to wax it regularly.
The Benefits of Wax
Not only will this habit of waxing your car keep it looking shiny and new, but it also makes washing your car easier and acts as a barrier, protecting your vehicles paint job and clear coat from the many factors nature throws your way.
Two of the most damaging factors that a good coat of wax can protect against are:
Sun
We love the sun – it uplifts our moods, is our main source of vitamin D, and gives us that lovely sun-kissed look after months of being cold and pale (welcome to Canada) – but that doesn’t mean our cars love it.
In fact, exposure to sunlight can have a number of negative effects on a vehicles exterior, such as causing the paint to bubble, crack, and even peel away.
Salt
Living somewhere that is covered in snow for (at least) 6 months of the year means that your vehicle is going to be spending a lot of time driving on salt covered roads.
While this salt is a necessity to our safety (because without it our roads would essentially be giant slip and slides), it is not the nicest to our cars. Over time, it causes the paint and metal on the vehicle to corrode and even rust.
But That’s Not All
There are many factors aside from sun and salt, such as humidity, hail, and even bird droppings, which can ruin the paint job on your car.
How Often Should You Wax Your Car?
Whether you choose to take your vehicle to a detailer or pamper it yourself at home, most professional detailers recommend that your car gets a fresh coat of wax 3 or 4 times per year (every 3 to 4 months).
To some this may seem a bit high, but remember to take into consideration the environment in which you live – Alberta is a beautiful place to call home, but the strong summer sun and the salty winter roads do not have beautiful effects on your vehicles finish.
Get In The Habit
To answer the question, no it’s not crucial – your car can survive without it – but if you want to keep it looking it’s best, protect it from rust, corrosion, chips, and scratches, and help hold the dollar value higher for longer, regular waxing is one of the best ways to do so.
